The first video from the upcoming Nu:Logic album, “What I’ve Always Waited For”. Get a load of that song! Lovely dramatic intro, trancey vocals that drop into a warm jungle-esque groove, with a bassline that reminds me of the seminal tune, Brown Paper Bag. I am suddenly very interested in this album!
High Contrast has just released the new official video for his single, Spectrum Analyser. Not only is the song quite good, better in my opinion than a bunch of other stuff I’ve heard from him recently, but the video is damn trippy, in a New Aesthetic kind of way.
I love the straight rolling party vibe of this one.
Slightly odd remix with some heavy drum action, h/t to The Kwrk for linking me this.
Who knew hardware could have so much fun? Oldie but a goodie.
This is getting closer. At his best, High Contrast combines gorgeous melodies with driving intensity. In my opinion, his most important songs so far have been Seven Notes In Black and If We Ever. I enjoy his dancefloor stuff, but those tunes suggest something grander, a promise of something I still hope to hear.
You might have noticed that both the songs I mention reference film. Seven Notes In Black takes its name from its use of the theme from the 1977 Giallo film, The Psychic (Sette Note in Nero). If We Ever samples the classic film, Network. Mr Barrett clearly loves his cinema.
The best of High Contrast so far anticipates a masterwork we may never meet. This song suggests the best is yet to come. This song is a bridge:
What is great in man is that he is a bridge and not a goal: what is lovable in man is that he is an over-going and a down-going.
Another pop slice from the Welshman with the Hair. I think I prefer his recent collaboration with Underworld and Tiesto, The First Note Is Silent, despite those horrible vocals. Still, you just know all the DJs and I will be thrashing this until I end up liking it despite myself.
Lincoln, (can I call you Lincoln?), you are making pop music. I understand and appreciate that. There is something else you should be doing, though. Maybe it involves your love of cinema, maybe it should be something deeply ambitious and likely to fail. I don’t know exactly what it is. But you are squandered on this.
